What’s Decisive is Not the Offer. It’s the Data Backing it.

Black Friday is a stress test. Not for marketing, the PR has long been prepared. But for what lies beneath it: product data that must harmonize across all channels. Prices must be up-to-date. Translations must be just-in-time. Attributes must be complete.

This is because, right before Black Friday, there is one thing that happens before anything else: a lot. And at the same time.

Products are added to the event at short notice. Prices change. Content must be adjusted, translated, validated, and distributed. And all these small-but-many tasks accumulate all of the sudden to form one extraordinarily large process problem.

Those who want to stand the stress test do not need better Excel lists. What they need instead are product data processes that also function under pressure.

What this means in detail becomes apparent after having a look at two roles who are effectively inseparable on Black Friday: e-commerce manager Emma and product manager Daniel.

Emma Needs the Speed. And so does Her Product Data.

For e-commerce manager Emma, what matters most on Black Friday is this: sales. Week upon week, she has been mapping out campaigns, defining offers, and preparing channels, from their own shop, through marketplaces, to social media.

Eventually, we enter the hot phase. All of the sudden, gaps in the translation for specific markets pop up. An event product lacks some of its relevant attributes. Some prices have changed, the content is yet to receive its final touch. Other products are still pending approval.

The Problem is rarely an individual task. Creating a description? Doable. Completing a translation? Same. Checking and releasing a product? No drama. Yet, what happens when this concerns 100 products? Or 1,000? In multiple languages and channels? This is when product data maintenance becomes a scaling problem.

What Helps Emma

Not a further tool but a process that runs automatically. As soon as product information is updated, the system distributes it: into all channels, all languages, and at the right time. AI agents generate texts and translations directly as part of the workflow. Not as a subsequent step, not as an additional expense right before D-day. What used to require manual release with feedback loops now runs automatically.

  • Central product data: Changes are provided to all connected channels as a reliable foundation.
  • Automatic workflows: Processes start on a rule-, time-, or event-based manner without waiting for the next manual click.
  • AI built into the process: Create and translate content without leaving the workflow.
  • Less manual handovers: Information and results flow directly into the next process step.

For Emma, this means: less waiting, less running after others, and product information that is quick to reach the place where it is actually needed. In short: Product data in flow rather than teams in stress.

Daniel Needs Quality. But Without More Effort.

While Emma thinks in campaigns and channels, product manager Daniel’s currency is data quality, rules, and releases. For him, Black Friday is a quality test: inconsistent identifiers resulting in products being not found by the search. Outdated data records that directly result in cancelled purchases. Missing attributes that bring processes to a standstill.

Even small improvements for the product page – complete information, consistent identifiers, better images – increase the conversion rate. Especially right before Black Friday, it is impossible for Daniel to accompany every process step for each and every product himself. And it is here where the decisive questions shifts drastically.

From: How can Daniel work faster?

To: What tasks must Daniel still do by himself?

What Helps Daniel

A system that identifies problems before they go live. Automated quality validations scan the catalog continuously and reports deviations immediately. Quality gates secure that only complete and correct data is processed further. AI agents fill in the blanks in attributes (e.g., materials or color) directly as part of the workflow with a confidence score as the foundation for decision making. And whenever output is to be checked before go-live: the human-in-the-loop is no longer a stopgap. It is a configurable process step. Accordingly, not every case must pass Daniel’s desk now. Only those cases are automatically reported to him that truly require his expertise. Control does not mean doing everything by yourself. Much rather, it means deciding what runs automatically and when a human must step in.

  • Continuous data validation: Missing information and rule violations are identified systematically.
  • Quality gates: Only data that meets user-defined requirements continue on in the process.
  • AI-assisted decisions: Confidence scores can control whether a processes continues automatically or whether it must first be validated.
  • Human-in-the-Loop: Configurable, not contingent.

Automation does not mean sacrificing control. It means defining what must be processed automatically and where human expertise is required.

AI Buttons do Not Yet Automate a Process

Nowadays, AI is capable of writing and translating texts, extracting information, and evaluating data. This is helpful. However, when Daniel must write a prompt for each AI function per product, copy the results, and, lastly, start the next workflow step themselves, then only the task has been accelerated, not the process.

This is why AI is integrated directly into the workflow in ATAMYA. AI tasks are a native component of the BPMN-based workflow engine. Your results can be forwarded to and applied directly in the very next process step.

It is here where AI turns into true automation. Implemented once, put to use whenever there is demand. This makes the difference in peak phases. After all, it is not like completely new tasks emerge out of nowhere during Black Friday. It is primarily about handling many familiar tasks all at the same time. And this is where automatic workflows put their strengths at full display.

A process is defined once and can then be applied to many products, domains, and languages. AI directly accesses the product data it needs and the respective contexts. This is the difference between AI as a tool and AI as an integral part of Product Data Management.

When Emma Needs Tempo and Daniel Quality

At the end of the day, both want the same. Emma needs product information in time for her commerce channels. Daniel must guarantee that this information meets the defined quality requirements.

Given manual processes, speed and control will quickly come into conflict with one another. With automated workflows, this can be avoided.

AI takes over recurring tasks. Workflows orchestrate the individual steps. Quality gates validate user-defined requirements. The human in the loop intervenes where decisions matter. Emma gains speed. Daniel stays in control. And the process between the two? It flows.

Conclusion: Black Friday is Only the Stress Test.

Black Friday makes apparent what is easy to overlook throughout the rest of the year. As long as you can keep an overview of your assortment, manual handovers, feedback cycles, and releases can be handled, more or less. Once volume and speed increase, however, they turn into a bottleneck.

This is why the true objective is not to manage product data faster on Black Friday but having to manage less product data manually.

And this is precisely what Agentic PIM is to ATAMYA: AI is not an additional feature added on top of Product Information Management. It operates directly from within the processes that enrich, translate, validate, and distribute product data. Automation only where it makes sense. Human control where it is required.

In this manner, product data processes come into being that do not only run well on Black Friday. But also on any ordinary Monday thereafter.
